Weldon Myrick - "Mr. Grand Ole Opry"
Weldon Myrick was born on April 10, 1938 in Jayton, Texas. He started his professional career with Bill Anderson's Po Boys, moved to Nashville and, with the help of Pete Drake, got a contract at the Grand Ole Opry. He remained there as one of the regular staff players for over 25 years!
Weldon did hundreds of recording sessions, together with Lloyd Green and Pete Drake he was the most frequently used Steel Guitar Player in the Nashville studios in the 1960's and 1970's. He can be heard on numerous hits records of artists like Connie Smith (didn#t he drive us all crazy with those fancy intros and solos!), Skeeter Davis, Reba McEntire, Bill Anderson, Vernon Oxford, Ricky Skaggs and many others. Together with Hal Rugg and Sonny Burnette he cut an instrumental album called "Steel Guitars of the Grand Ole Opry" and he was also a member of the studio based Country-Rock formation "Area Code 615".
Weldon Myrick is a member of the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame.
